Exciting Playwriting Workshop with CAST this fall!

High school students in grades 9-12 are invited to two FREE Teen Writers Workshops on  September 5-6, 2014, to experience theatre, learn about Shakespeare,  and gain experience in writing plays with the world-class actors of Cambridge University American Stage Tour (CAST).

Renowned as a showcase of the leading dramatic talent from Cambridge University, CAST returns to Sebastian River High School this year for a performance of Much Ado About Nothing.   The performance is preceded by two workshops, presented by The Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation and generously funded by Quail Valley Charities, which are open to all teens and home-schooled High School juniors and seniors.

Acting Workshop

The CAST experience begins Friday, Sept. 5, 12:30-3:30, with an acting workshop at the Sebastian River High School Performing Arts Center. Students from all area high schools are invited to work with CAST members in fun and interactive theatre exercises that will stretch their creativity and dramatic skills.

Writing Workshop

For those who’d rather write than act, a workshop on Shakespeare and playwriting will be held on Saturday, from 10 AM – 1 PM (lunch provided).  High School Juniors and Seniors can reserve a spot in this workshop, by sending an email with your name, grade, and school to TeenWriters@LauraRidingJackson.com.

Performance – Much Ado About Nothing

The weekend will be capped by a CAST performance of Shakespeare’s comedy Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Emily Burns, and open to the public. The performance will be September 6, Saturday, 7:00 PM at the Sebastian River High School Performing Arts Center. Free-will donations are requested.

CAST is a company of the Cambridge University’s top directors, producers, actors and technicians that brings a Shakespeare play each year to Ivy League universities, high schools and professional theatres across the east coast of America. It was established under the patronage of Dame Judi Dench in 2000 and aims to bring the work of Shakespeare to as wide an audience as possible in the eastern United States. See castcambridge.com for more information.

Since its founding, the Teen Writers Workshop has held dozens of workshops, helping local students to win college scholarships and earn top honors in state and national writing contests.
