Write Your Own Story with Janisse Ray – an exploration of memoir
March 12 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm$45.00
Spend a morning working on your own stories with award-winning
writer Janisse Ray. The 3-hour workshop will focus on memoir and creative
nonfiction. This hands-on workshop will include writing exercises that
explore memory, people in your life, places in nature you really love, and
meaningful objects. The focus will be on bringing your stories to life by
using the many senses and then adding layers and depth of meaning. You
will learn how to work with scenes and will come away with at least one
usable scene as well as some ideas on structure. We’ll learn why others
care about your stories: why your stories are important to all of us.
Janisse Ray is a naturalist and activist, and the author of seven books of
nonfiction and poetry, including The Seed Underground: A Growing
Revolution to Save Food, Drifting into Darien: A Personal and Natural
History of the Altamaha River, and Ecology of a Cracker Childhood, which
won the American Book Award. Her work has appeared widely in
magazines and journals, and she is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize, the
Nautilus Book Award, and numerous other honors. Ray lives on an organic
farm near Savannah, Georgia.
