COVID-19 Writing Competitions

In 2021, we hosted 2 writing and poetry competitions to unite the community during the COVID-19 lockdown. We received over 300 entries from students, poets, and writers, all inspired by the effects of COVID-19. Sean Sexton, Indian River Poet Laureate, presided over a panel of judges that included Carrie Adams and Janna Schledorn to select our winners. The winning poems and writings are compiled into our first published book, In the Quarantined Room. We are so proud of this publication, and we can’t wait for our next writing competition!

Poetry and BBQ

LRJF’s signature event is the annual Poetry and BBQ in April. World class poets are brought to Vero Beach to present their work and to run workshops. Hundreds of people in the community gather to listen and enjoy one another in a vibrant exchange of expression and ideas. Plus, the food is really good!
